Why Is My Dishwasher Not Draining?
Most dishwashers that will not drain are blocked. Food, labels, broken glass and fat collect in the filter under the bottom spray arm and in the sump below it. The drain hose can kink behind the machine or block where it joins the sink trap, especially after new plumbing. When the path is clear and the water still stays, the drain pump has usually failed. What Can You Safely Check First?
Switch off at the wall, scoop out the standing water, then twist out the filter under the bottom spray arm and rinse it under the tap. Check the sump below for glass or bones, taking care with sharp pieces.
Check the sink trap if the dishwasher hose connects to it, and make sure a new waste spigot has had its blanking cap cut out.
Keep water away from the socket and switch off at the wall before reaching into the base.
