Does My Freezer Need Regassing?
Only if it has a leak. A chest freezer, deep freezer or upright freezer is a sealed system that keeps its refrigerant for life, so when gas is low it has escaped through a pipe, joint or the evaporator. We check airflow, thermostat, fans and seals first, so you only pay for regassing when your freezer needs it.

Gas added to a leaking system escapes again, sometimes within weeks. We locate the leak, repair or replace the leaking section, pull a vacuum on the system and regas to the charge on the rating plate. Then we run the freezer and check that it reaches temperature before we leave.

Regassing is not a DIY job. R600a, used in many freezers, is flammable, refrigerant must never be released into the air, and gas added without repairing the leak escapes again. Do not chip ice off the liner: the pipes run just behind it.
