Why Does My Freezer Keep Running?
A freezer runs until it reaches the temperature on the thermostat, then rests. When it cannot get there, it keeps running. The most common reasons are warm air leaking past a worn seal, a condenser coated in dust, frost insulating the evaporator, a thermostat that has stuck closed, or a refrigerant leak.

When to stop using the appliance
Switch the appliance off at the wall if you notice a burning smell, smoke, sparking, exposed wiring, repeated breaker trips or water near electrical parts. After Loading the Freezer
A full load of fresh food can keep a freezer running for many hours while it pulls the temperature down. That is normal. If it is still running non-stop a day later, or the food is not freezing hard, it is time for a technician.
Give the freezer at least 10 cm of space at the back and sides so the condenser can release heat, and keep it out of direct sun where you can.

Frequently Asked Questions About Freezer Running Continuously
Is it normal for a freezer to run all the time?
A freezer can run for hours after loading or on a very hot day, but it should still switch off regularly. If it never rests, check the seal and the space around the back, then book a visit if it carries on.
Why does my freezer run more in hot weather?
The condenser has to shed heat into the room, and a hot room makes that slower. Give the freezer space to breathe and keep the condenser clean. Garage and verandah freezers run much longer in October heat.
Can a bad door seal make a freezer run continuously?
Yes, it is one of the most common causes. Close the lid or door on a sheet of paper. If it slides out easily, the seal is letting in warm air and should be replaced.
Does a freezer that runs all the time need gas?
Sometimes. A leak makes the freezer run without reaching temperature, but a worn seal, dusty condenser or stuck thermostat are more common. We check those first, and test for a leak before quoting for freezer regassing.
