Why Is My Freezer Leaking Water?
Most freezer leaks are melted frost with nowhere to go. On frost-free uprights the defrost drain behind the back panel freezes or blocks, and water spills into the drawers or onto the floor. On chest freezers the drain plug at the bottom is often left open after defrosting, or a worn lid seal lets moist air in that later melts.

Why is there water under my freezer?
Usually the defrost drain is blocked or the drain tray has overflowed. On a chest freezer, check that the drain plug at the bottom front is closed. Water that keeps returning needs the drain and defrost system checked.
Why is there water inside my freezer drawers?
On a frost-free upright, melt from the defrost cycle runs into a drain behind the back panel. When that drain freezes over, the water spills into the drawers instead. We clear the drain and check the defrost heater so it stays open.
Is it normal for a freezer to leak after I defrost it?
Some water is normal while the ice melts. If water still appears a day or two later, the drain is blocked or the seal is letting in moist air.
Can ice build-up cause a freezer to leak?
