Why Is My Washing Machine Not Washing Properly?
Start with the load and the detergent. An overfilled drum leaves no room for clothes to tumble, and too little detergent, or the wrong type for a front-loader, leaves soil behind. When those are right, a failed heater element or temperature sensor leaves every wash cold, and a worn agitator, clutch or belt on a top-loader turns the clothes too gently.
On Defy and Hisense top-loaders we check the agitator or impeller and the drive. Samsung and LG front-loaders are checked for the heater, sensor and drum speed. Our washing machine repairs technicians test each part; book a repair and tell us whether the water feels warm during the wash.

What Can You Safely Check First?
Fill the drum to about three quarters, leaving a hand's width at the top. Use the dose on the packet, with front-loader detergent in a front-loader. Clean the detergent drawer, and touch the door glass halfway through a 40°C wash: it should feel warm.
