Bosch Washing Machine Repairs in Harare
Serie 2 to 8, EcoSilence Drive and Older Bosch Front-Loaders

Most Bosch washing machines are front-loaders, sold as Serie 2, 4, 6 and 8, with older machines badged Classixx, Maxx, Avantixx or Logixx. Newer models use the EcoSilence Drive, a brushless inverter motor; older ones use a brushed motor with carbon brushes. Which one you have decides how we approach a drum or spin fault.
Bosch shows faults as a letter and a number, such as E18 or F18, and newer machines add a second number after a dash, for example E:18-07. Send the whole code. For faults every brand shares, see washing machine repairs; for other Bosch appliances, see Bosch appliance repairs.
We are an independent repairer, not an authorised Bosch service agent. If your machine is still under the manufacturer's or retailer's warranty, contact them first. Once the warranty has ended, book a repair or call 0719 227 718 with the model and what the machine is doing.
Which Bosch Washing Machine Do You Have?
EcoSilence Drive models
Most Serie 4, 6 and 8 machines. The brushless motor has no carbon brushes to wear, so drum faults are traced to the motor wiring, a jam between drum and tub, or the electronics that drive the motor.
Brushed-motor models
Older Classixx, Maxx and Avantixx machines and some Serie 2 models. Two carbon brushes wear down over the years; once they are too short, the drum turns weakly or stops with a motor code.
i-DOS models
Serie 8 and some Serie 6 machines dose detergent automatically from built-in tanks. A blocked dosing channel or pump shows as poor washing or a dosing message on the display.
Washer-dryers
A front-loader with a drying stage. If it washes well but leaves clothes damp, the heater, fan and condenser are tested separately from the wash.
Aquastop, Motors and Other Bosch Features
Many Bosch machines have Aquastop: an inlet hose with a safety valve at the tap end and a float switch in the base of the machine. If water collects in the base, the float trips, the valve closes, the pump runs and the display shows a leak code, E23 or F23 on most models. The repair is finding where the water came from, such as the pump filter seal, a hose inside the machine or the door seal, not just drying the base.
Bosch machines time how long they take to fill. Low or interrupted pressure from a storage tank, or a borehole pump that cycles on and off, can stop a wash with E17 or F17 even when the machine itself is fine, so we check the supply before the inlet valve.
On brushed-motor models, new carbon brushes are fitted in pairs and the motor's commutator is checked at the same time; a scored commutator wears new brushes out quickly.
Bosch doors are held by an electrical lock that releases a short time after the cycle ends. A door that stays locked with an empty drum points to the lock or its supply from the board.
Bosch Washing Machine Error Codes
These codes match most Bosch front-loaders sold in Southern Africa and Europe. Meanings can differ on older or other-market machines, so send the code with the E-Nr model number from the rating plate inside the door.
Code: E16 or F16
What it means: The door is open or not closed properly.
What to check: Open the door, check no clothing is caught in the seal and close it firmly. If the code stays, the door lock or catch is tested.
Code: E17 or F17
What it means: Water is taking too long to come in.
What to check: Check the tap is fully open, the hose is not kinked and the supply has pressure, including the tank level or borehole pump. The inlet filter and valve are tested next.
Code: E18 or F18
What it means: Water is taking too long to drain.
What to check: Unplug, then clean the pump filter behind the flap at the bottom front, with a tray and towels ready, and check the drain hose. If the code returns, the drain pump is tested.
Code: E19 or F19
What it means: The water took too long to heat.
What to check: The heater, the temperature sensor and their wiring are tested. Limescale on the heater can slow heating on hard water.
Code: E23 or F23
What it means: Water in the base: the Aquastop has tripped.
What to check: Unplug the machine and turn off the tap. The leak is traced and repaired, and the base is dried so the float resets before the machine is used.
If the display shows a code with a dash, such as E:18-07, send both numbers. For a code not listed here, see washing machine error codes.
Safety Before You Touch the Washing Machine
- Unplug the machine before opening the pump filter, and drain into a shallow tray: the water can be hot.
- After an E23 or F23, leave the machine unplugged with the tap off. Water in the base can reach electrical parts.
- If the machine trips the electricity or smells of burning, switch it off at the wall and leave it off until it is checked.
- Motor, board and heater tests are for a technician: those connections carry mains voltage.
How a Bosch Washing Machine Repair Works
Send the E-Nr model number from the rating plate, usually printed inside the door opening, with the full code on the display and whether water is still in the drum.
A technician comes to your home and works on the machine where it is plumbed in. We confirm the code, check the water supply or drain path first, then test the part the code points to.
You get the diagnosis and a quote before any work starts. On an Aquastop trip, we find and repair the leak before resetting the machine.
Common Bosch Washing Machine Problems
Not draining
E18 or F18: the pump filter, sump hose and drain pump, in that order.
Not filling
E17 or F17: the tap, supply pressure, inlet filter or inlet valve.
Leaking
E23 or F23 and water in the base: seals, hoses and the pump filter.
Drum not turning
Worn carbon brushes on older models, or the motor and its control.
Door stays locked
Water left in the drum, then the electrical door lock.
Not spinning
An unbalanced load, a drain fault holding the spin, or the motor.
Bosch Washing Machine Repair Costs
Every Bosch repair is quoted after diagnosis and before any work starts. Cleaning a filter, replacing a door lock or fitting carbon brushes costs far less than a motor, a control module or bearings.
A repair is usually worth doing on a Bosch that is otherwise sound. If the bearings or tub have failed on an older machine, we compare the cost with a replacement and tell you plainly.
Machine still running but due a check? Washing machine servicing covers the filter, hoses, door seal and drain. We also repair LG washing machines, Samsung washing machines and Defy washing machines.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does E18 mean on a Bosch washing machine?
On most Bosch front-loaders, E18 or F18 means the water took too long to drain. Unplug the machine and clean the pump filter at the bottom front first. If it returns with a clean filter and a straight hose, we test the drain pump.
Why does my Bosch washing machine show E17?
E17 or F17 means water is coming in too slowly. Check the tap is fully open and the hose is not kinked. Low pressure from a tank or a borehole pump is a common cause; if the supply is fine, the inlet filter and valve are tested.
What is Aquastop and why has it stopped my Bosch?
Aquastop is a leak guard. When water collects in the base, a float switch trips, the inlet valve at the tap closes and the machine shows E23 or F23. The leak has to be found and fixed, and the base dried, before the machine will run again.
Does my Bosch washing machine have carbon brushes?
Older Classixx, Maxx and Avantixx machines and some Serie 2 models do. Machines with EcoSilence Drive use a brushless motor with no brushes to wear. The model number tells us which you have.
How much does a Bosch washing machine repair cost in Harare?
We diagnose first and quote before any work starts. A filter clean, door lock or pair of carbon brushes costs far less than a motor, a control module or bearings.
Do you repair Bosch washing machines under warranty?
We are an independent repairer, not an authorised Bosch agent. If the machine is under warranty, contact the retailer or Bosch first. Once the warranty has ended, we repair it at your home.
