LG Washing Machine Repairs in Harare
Direct Drive Front-Loaders and LG Top-Loaders Repaired at Home

Most LG front-loaders use an Inverter Direct Drive motor: the rotor is bolted straight to the drum shaft and the stator sits behind it, with no belt and no carbon brushes. That changes where a spin or drum fault comes from. Instead of a worn belt, we look at the rotor, the stator windings, the hall sensor that reports the drum position and the drum bearings.
The display usually tells us where to start. LG codes are short letter pairs, such as OE for a drain fault or IE for a slow fill, and the table below explains each one and what you can safely check before booking. For faults every brand shares, see washing machine repairs; for other LG appliances, see LG appliance repairs.
We are an independent repairer, not an authorised LG service agent. If your machine is still under the manufacturer's or retailer's warranty, contact them first. Once the warranty has ended, book a repair or call 0719 227 718 with the model and what the machine is doing.
Which LG Washing Machine Do You Have?
Direct Drive front-loader
Door at the front and a drum turned directly by the motor. LG has used Direct Drive in its front-loaders for many years, including steam and TurboWash models. Drain filter, door lock, hall sensor and bearing faults are the usual repairs.
Washer-dryer
A front-loader with a drying stage that adds a heater, a fan and a condenser. If it washes well but leaves clothes damp, the drying circuit is tested separately from the wash.
Top-loader
Loads from the top and washes with a pulsator in the base of the drum, and many use an inverter motor. The lid lock, the water level sensor and the drain path are the first checks when it stops mid-cycle.
How LG Direct Drive Changes the Repair
There is no belt to slip or snap. When an LG drum will not turn, the fault is in the motor circuit, the control board or something jamming the drum, so we test the stator windings, the rotor and the hall sensor before suggesting any part.
The hall sensor is a small module on the stator that tells the board where the drum is. When it fails, the drum can twitch, turn slowly or stop with an LE code, and it costs far less to replace than a stator or board.
A loose rotor bolt or a damaged rotor causes a heavy knock each time the drum turns. We check the bolt, the rotor and the shaft splines for wear.
The bearings sit behind the rotor. A roar on spin that rises with drum speed usually means worn bearings, and on some models the outer tub has to be split or replaced to reach them. We check the drum for play and price the job before you decide whether it is worth doing.
After a power cut, many LG machines show PF when the power returns; press Start to carry on. During load-shedding, switching the machine off at the wall protects the control board from the surge when power comes back. See appliance damage after power cuts.
LG Washing Machine Error Codes
These codes are shared by most LG front-loaders and top-loaders. Some models add others, so send the code exactly as it appears, with the model number.
Code: IE
What it means: The drum did not fill with water in time.
What to check: Check the tap is fully open, the inlet hose is not kinked and there is pressure at the tap. On a tank or borehole supply, check the pump is running. The inlet filter and inlet valve are tested next.
Code: OE
What it means: The water did not drain in time.
What to check: Unplug the machine, then clean the pump filter behind the small flap at the bottom front, with a tray and towels ready. Check the drain hose is not kinked. If OE returns, the drain pump is tested.
Code: UE
What it means: The load is unbalanced, so the machine will not spin at full speed.
What to check: Spread the load out, especially a single heavy item such as a duvet or bath mat, and restart. If it happens with normal loads, the shock absorbers and springs are checked.
Code: dE, dE1, dE2
What it means: The door is not closed or the lock is not engaging.
What to check: Open the door, check nothing is caught in the seal and close it firmly. A dE that keeps coming back points to the door lock or the catch on the door.
Code: LE
What it means: The motor could not turn the drum.
What to check: Unplug for ten minutes, take out part of the load and try again. If LE returns with a normal load, the hall sensor, stator, rotor and wiring are tested.
Code: PE
What it means: The water level sensor is giving a reading the board cannot use.
What to check: The pressure sensor and its hose are tested. Until it is fixed the machine can fill too much or too little, so avoid using it.
Code: tE
What it means: The water temperature sensor or heating circuit has a fault.
What to check: The thermistor, the heater and their wiring are tested. Washes may come out cold until it is repaired.
Code: PF
What it means: The power was interrupted during a cycle.
What to check: Press Start to resume. PF without a power cut points to the plug, the socket or the supply to the machine.
Code: CL
What it means: Child lock is on. This is not a fault.
What to check: Hold the two buttons marked with the lock symbol for about three seconds to switch it off.
A code points to a circuit, not always to a failed part. An OE caused by a blocked filter needs no parts at all, which is why we test before quoting. For a code not listed here, see washing machine error codes.
Safety Before You Touch the Washing Machine
- Unplug the machine before opening the pump filter, and drain into a shallow tray: the water can be hot.
- Do not force the door while water is in the drum. The lock stays engaged for safety until the water drains.
- If the machine trips the electricity or smells of burning, switch it off at the wall and leave it off until it is checked.
- Motor, board and heater tests are for a technician: those connections carry mains voltage.
How an LG Washing Machine Repair Works
Send the model number from the rating label, usually on the back panel or around the door opening, with the code on the display and what happened just before it stopped.
A technician comes to your home and works on the machine where it stands. We confirm the code, then test the part it points to, so a drain fault gets the filter, hose and pump checked before anything is replaced.
You get the diagnosis and a quote before any work starts. If water is still in the drum when we arrive, leave the door closed and we drain it safely.
Common LG Washing Machine Problems
Not spinning
UE on an unbalanced load, water left in the drum, or a hall sensor or motor fault.
Not draining
OE on the display: a blocked pump filter or hose first, then the drain pump.
Not filling
IE on the display: the tap, water pressure, inlet filter or inlet valve.
Drum not turning
LE or a twitching drum: the hall sensor, stator, rotor or wiring.
Noisy on spin
A roar points to the bearings; a knock as the drum turns points to the rotor bolt.
Door stays locked
dE codes and doors that will not open after the cycle has ended.
LG Washing Machine Repair Costs
Every LG repair is quoted after diagnosis and before any work starts. Clearing a pump filter or replacing a door lock or hall sensor costs far less than a stator, a control board or bearings.
If the bearings have failed on an older machine and the tub has to be replaced, we compare the repair with the price of a new machine and tell you plainly which makes more sense.
Machine still running but due a check? Washing machine servicing covers the filter, hoses, door seal and drain. We also repair Samsung washing machines, Bosch washing machines and Defy washing machines, and LG fridges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you fix an LG washing machine showing OE?
Yes. OE means the water did not drain in time. Unplug the machine and clean the pump filter behind the flap at the bottom front first. If OE comes back with a clean filter and a straight hose, we test the drain pump and its wiring.
What does LE mean on an LG washing machine?
LE is a locked motor error: the board tried to turn the drum and it did not move as expected. An overloaded drum can cause it. If it returns with a normal load, the hall sensor, stator, rotor or wiring is tested.
Does an LG Direct Drive washing machine have a belt?
No. The rotor is fixed to the drum shaft, so there is no belt or carbon brushes to wear. Drum faults are traced to the motor, the hall sensor, the bearings or the control board instead.
My LG washing machine shows PF after load-shedding. Is it broken?
Usually not. PF means the power was interrupted during a cycle; press Start to continue. If PF appears without a power cut, the plug, socket or supply connection needs checking.
How much does an LG washing machine repair cost in Harare?
We diagnose first and quote before any work starts, because the cost depends on the part. A filter clean or a door lock costs far less than a stator, a board or bearings.
Do you repair LG washing machines that are still under warranty?
We are an independent repairer, not an authorised LG agent. If the machine is under warranty, contact the retailer or LG first. Once the warranty has ended, we repair it at your home.
