Why Is My Washing Machine Not Draining?
Most drain faults are blockages. Coins, hair clips, socks and lint collect in the pump filter or the sump hose, and a drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe or kinked behind the machine stops the flow. When the path is clear and the water still stays, the drain pump itself has usually failed. Our washing machine repairs technicians clear the blockage or replace the pump on site.
Samsung front-loaders show 5C or 5E and LG machines show OE for a drain fault. Many Hisense and Defy front-loaders have a small filter behind a flap at the bottom front; top-loaders keep the pump inside the base. Send the code and model when you book a repair.

Common Causes of Poor Drainage
These are the usual causes, from the simplest to the most involved.

When to stop using the appliance
Switch the appliance off at the wall if you notice a burning smell, smoke, sparking, exposed wiring, repeated breaker trips or water near electrical parts. Leave electrical covers, high-voltage parts and the heater, motor, pump and anything behind a cover to a technician, then call or WhatsApp 0719 227 718 and we will arrange an assessment.
What Can You Safely Check First?
Check the drain hose behind the machine for kinks, and make sure only about 15 cm of it sits inside the standpipe. If the hose drains into a sink, check the sink waste is clear.
Switch the machine off at the wall first. If your model has a user filter behind a flap at the bottom front, put down towels and a shallow tray, unscrew it slowly and clear any lint, coins or clips. Water will come out and can be hot after a wash, so go slowly.
Leave the pump body and wiring to the technician. On models without a user filter, the pump sits inside the base and the technician opens the machine to reach it.
When to Stop Running Drain Cycles
One drain or spin attempt after clearing the filter is fine. After that, leave the machine as it is, with the water sealed behind the door, until we drain it.
If water is spreading towards a socket, close the taps, switch off at the wall and unplug the machine from a dry position.
